Dr. David Scharia is a senior member of CTED's management team, leading the thematic expertise and research branch since 2016. He manages a team of international experts advising the UN Security Council on a wide range of counter-terrorism issues, including legal and criminal justice matters, law enforcement, financing of terrorism, gender and terrorism, and human rights. He also oversees CTED's work on new and emerging technologies. In addition to his UN role, Dr. Scharia engages extensively with civil society, human rights organizations, and academia, and has co-chaired key UN Global Compact Working Groups on Gender and Resource Mobilization. He is also a member of the International Advisory Council of the GIFCT. Dr. Scharia holds an LLB, LLM (with distinction), and PhD from Tel Aviv University, and has completed executive education at MIT. He has been a National Security Scholar at Columbia University and a visiting fellow at NYU. HIS academic work has been published by Oxford University Press and Harvard National Security Journal, among others.
